What is a Carer:
A Carer is someone who looks after relatives, friends or neighbours who need support to live at home because of physical frailty, learning disability, or illness (including mental illness).
They do not necessarily live in the same home as the person who is being cared for and are not paid for this support.
Anyone who falls into this category should be made aware of their rights under the Carers (equal opportunities) Act for an assessment of their needs and with their permission referred to the Community Advice Team who will offer support and advice and arrange a Carers Assessment.
